From the Allgäu to Lithuania: VMG Lignum Kicks Off with SEMA

A new client, a new prefabrication project, and a pilot structure that's already in place: On October 15, SEMA visited its new client, UAB VMG Lignum Systems, in Lithuania. CEO Thomas Gartner, Wiktoria Rakowska (International Sales Manager), and Māra Šulca (Area Sales Manager for Latvia and Lithuania) were on site.

Wood-based materials and prefabrication at a single location

VMG Lignum Systems is part of the VMG Lignum Group. At the plant in the Akmenė district, approximately 250 employees work across 29,000 square meters of production and warehouse space. The facility produces laminated veneer lumber (LVL), web beams, and load-bearing particleboard. Building on this foundation, the company develops construction systems using prefabricated elements — for both new construction and renovation.

During the tour, the VMG Lignum team showcased both sides of the operation: LVL production and prefabrication in the production hall. The SEMA team was particularly impressed by the size of the facility and its strategic plans for further development.

A pilot project as initial proof

For its new prefabrication project, VMG Lignum Systems is partnering with SEMA Fertigbau. The team has already implemented a pilot project with SEMA: a representative section of the commissioned building. VMG Lignum will soon present this pilot project to its client.

“We are pleased to be part of VMG Lignum Systems’ growth strategy and to contribute to the success of their prefabrication projects with SEMA,” said Thomas Gartner.

Next Steps

The collaboration will continue immediately. In a joint meeting, both teams will review the add-ons that are suitable for the project. In addition, SEMA is planning a dedicated training session for VMG Lignum’s employees. As with all training sessions in prefabricated construction, SEMA will tailor it to the team’s experience and goals.

For over 40 years, SEMA has been developing software for timber construction — from the Allgäu region for companies in 41 countries. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the VMG Lignum team for their warm welcome and the factory tour.
